Frequently Asked Questions

What is WHN?

WHN is a networking forum which meets the needs of people working from home offices in Wokingham and the surrounding area.

What is WHN's main purpose?

WHN recognizes that there are many individuals - self employed, in small businesses, remote workers in large companies - who operate from home offices in and around the Wokingham area. They rarely meet the people they interact with day-to-day through email, messaging, text or phone. WHN enables local people to build relationships with like-minded local people to share ideas and challenges, and to overcome the isolation that can accompany home working.

Is WHN a business venture?

No. However, contacts made at WHN events could lead to business activities depending on individual contributions and requirements.

Is WHN an online community?

No. Since its main objective is to encourage face-to-face contacts, WHN is not an online community. Online networking sites that WHN members use for Internet communication include LinkedIn, Facebook and Plaxo.

Do I join WHN? Do I have to pay anything?

There is no joining fee. There is fee of £5 per meeting which can be paid as a discounted annual subscription of £40.

What am I likely to get out of WHN?

WHN offers the opportunity to meet with other homeworkers and small businesses in an informal environment to share ideas, experiences & lessons, test propositions, introduce contacts, solve common problems and create social activities. Specific outcomes will vary depending on who turns up and what each person brings – that is what networking is about.

How frequently does WHN meet?

WHN meets on a monthly basis – 1st Wednesday of every month – from 12.00 to 14.00. The format of each meeting allows each person to present who they are and what they do in a relaxed environment. From time to time, WHN meetings are led by external speakers who present on specific areas of common interest.
